A ceramic mural of considerable historical and monetary value could soon come out of the dark to be celebrated on permanent display.

Most Masterton residents over a certain age will remember E. Mervyn Taylor’s Early Settlers mural that adorned the wall leading into the Chief Post Office.

The sale of the old Masterton post office has raised hopes it will again see the light of day after the building’s prospective owners signalled they were keen to put it back on display.

The mural was obscured behind a wall that was constructed in a retail space, which was refurbished after the post office moved a block south on Queen St.

E. Mervyn Taylor was a prominent modernist artist who created several murals adorning public spaces across the country.
