Jessie Neilson reviews You Are Here for Otago Daily Times:
‘You Are Here, the sixth of Massey University Press' kōrero series, places the individual at the centre of the conversation and also relegates them to a tiny spot within the larger picture. The narrator knows her insignificance, blaming herself for her disconnect: “You are a culmination” but “you wanted a life free of ties . . . But as you coloured your life, year by year and square by square, you saw them in your decisions and actions”.
A story is in connections. She knows stories, but not her own pūrākau, feels the prior absence of a voice, having been passively acted upon by history and colonisation. Slowly she unravels her story, pieces of memory sneaking through the extended musings.’
