The Crewe Murders: Inside New Zealand’s Most Infamous Cold Case, by Kirsty Johnston and James Hollings, has taken out the non-fiction category of the 2025 Ngaio Marsh Awards. Awarded every two years, the non-fiction category celebrates the best true crime writing in New Zealand.
The judges described the book as: ‘Scrupulously researched, carefully structured, layered with forensic and legal detail. Among a small library of writing about the Crewes and Thomas, this should be regarded as the definitive record of one of New Zealand’s most infamous and troubling crimes.’
